Celebrations!

Thanks to your support, I’m excited to announce that I passed the LMSW exam in April! LMSW stands for Licensed Master’s Social Worker, a non-clinical license demonstrating expertise in ethics, case management, and advocacy. I’m honored to hold this designation and look forward to using it to better support families in the postpartum space. Thank you for being a part of this journey!

MEET CHANTEL!
Chantel is a devoted mother of twin girls and is passionate about supporting young children and families. She is trained as a Full-Spectrum Doula, Infant Massage Educator, and Childbirth Educator. She offers evening postpartum doula support and infant massage education to empower families on their parenting journey. Chantel joined LIVLoved in June 2024!

MEET CIERRA!
Cierra is a Maryland native and trained Postpartum Doula specializing in overnight and daytime postpartum care, sibling care, and temp nanny services with over six years of childcare experience. Cierra joined LIVLoved in September 2024.

MEET JABRITA!
Jabrita is a passionate mother, advocate, and State Certified Doula with certifications in Mental Health Advocacy, Trauma-Informed Care, Mindful Practice, Womb Trauma, and Family and Relationship Trauma. She offers birth and postpartum support. Jabrita joined LIVLoved in December 2024.

Navigating New Paths: Birth and Postpartum Doulas Supporting Families of Children with Special Needs

In August, LIVLoved presented at the ARC of Virginia Statewide Convention with Bloom, Baby! Birthing Services about the vital role of doulas for families with special needs. The session highlighted how doulas provide essential emotional, physical, and informational support that enhances mental health, strengthens parent-child bonding, and improves breastfeeding. As LIVLoved families, you recognize the value of support during the postpartum period. The presentation emphasized that doulas assist with early intervention, managing medical appointments, and advocating for children's needs. We encourage you to share the benefits of doula care and its positive impact on your journey and others'.

Raising Awareness of the Benefits of Doula Care on Maternal Behavioral Health

Thank you for supporting our project to raise awareness about the positive impact of doula care on maternal health. We hosted community sessions at four locations, featuring diverse doula facilitators and interpreters for non-English speakers, laying the foundation for future engagement. Additionally, we offered virtual doula training on topics such as perinatal mood disorders and trauma-informed care, which received positive feedback for enhancing participants' skills.

A special thank you to Nikki Eggleston, Aurea Hawkins, Brittany Watson, Dr. Janelle Peifer, Dr. Danielle Spearman-Camblard, and Marissa Williams for leading these sessions and trainings. Research Study Opportunity!

The AYA Research Team at VCU is conducting a study where they are looking to talk to romantically involved couples who are either expecting or raising a Black child under the age of 5. Parents must reside in the Greater Richmond area. Compensation is available.
